The Zarin
Story
Our name comes from the Zarin family and its three generations of millworkers. Steve Zarin, a Belarus immigrant, came to Canada and opened his own millwork shop in East Vancouver. Steve’s son, Peter, continued on in his dad’s footsteps and started his own company, Zarin Construction Ltd., in 1979. Peter’s son, Jeff, having grown up surrounded by millwork his entire life, quickly learned to respect a craft that was deep-routed in family history and was always looking for ways to educate himself in a traditional craft that was still essential in a rapidly evolving world. Upon Peter’s retirement in 2016, Jeff took over the family business which is now doing business as Zarin Architectural Millwork.

In 1979, Zarin began as a modest operation in a single-car garage doing small household renovations. In the early days, the company started out as more of a general contracting/millwork company. Zarin eventually trended solely towards millwork projects. Still to this day, that deep knowledge of all the working parts of a construction project gives Zarin a big picture perspective on what unlocks success and gives the company the ability to
“….know what’s required of us to make other trades successful.”
Having knowledge of the general contracting process positions us to assist the general contractors we work with.
Having served many clients in commercial construction for decades, Zarin attributes its steady growth to a customer list full of repeat business as well as new business based on word of mouth. After 4 phases of growth, each time doubling it’s plant size, Zarin now occupies a 10,000 square foot facility, supporting various sized commercial projects (from small to large) across British Columbia and Alberta. As Jeff puts it, “we are big enough to handle large-scale projects, and small enough to provide personal service.”
By focusing intensely on what makes Zarin an invaluable partner and service-provider to the commercial architectural millwork industry, the company brand “Zarin” has become something every team member is proud of. A day working at Zarin Architectural Millwork consists of hard work, creativity, flexibility, transparency, and responsibility.
